Welcome to my very first blog post!

I created this space to be a quiet corner on the internet aka a space dedicated to bite-sized insights, and practical tips that fit perfectly into a busy life while staying focused on your classroom life.

If you're teaching ELLs/MLLs while juggling a whole bunch of other teaching/admin demands, you already know how challenging it must feel to stay on top of your own professional development (plus, if you got precious angels of your own, it feels nearly impossible - I feel that).

This blog is here to make that journey feel lighter, clearer, and more manageable.

What This Blog Is All About

This won't be a place for overwhelming, hours-long lectures.

Instead, WordyVenture's blog will focus on bite-sized, high-impact insights that teachers can actually apply in real classrooms.

Today’s 2-Minute Insight:

The Power of 1%

To kick things off, I want to leave you with a concept that completely changed how I approach my days: the rule of 1%.

When I first started working in schools, I constantly felt like there wasn’t enough time.

Between planning, teaching, meetings, and deadlines, PD always seemed to take a back seat. And now, as a mom, I understand even more deeply how limited time and energy can feel.

But I still wanted to grow. So I focused on what I " Can-Do" (IYKYK - WIDA reference), which was 1%. It was all I had left at the end of the week. So I made it work.

This was 8 years ago...today I'm here with you as WordyVenture.

So what did that 1% look like for me?

• Reading one chapter from an EAL book, OR

• Listening to one podcast episode on language development, AND

• Writing down just two takeaways I could actually use that week.

Then I’d bring those ideas into my planning, try them in the classroom, reflect on what worked, and grow from there. That's it. That was (and still is) my 1%

Small choices compound over time. You don’t need a perfect plan; you just need to start.
